Finger strength and finger skills are extremely important to musicians. Their fingers need to be agile and quick and to be able to work independently.

However, must musicians don’t have a dedicated exercise program for their hands and fingers. They just assume that their fingers will get strong enough and agile enough from practice. Unfortunately, this is a common misconception that holds many musicians back.

In this video, Mr. Lynch emphasizes the importance of having a dedicated finger exercise program and of exercising your hands and fingers each and every day. He also emphasizes the need to warm up your hands and fingers with some exercises before playing.

Just as athletes need to strengthen and condition their bodies to achieve peak performance, musicians must strengthen and condition their hands and fingers in order to perform at their highest possible level.

In the video, Mr. Lynch demonstrates a finger exercise regime on a ukulele that can be used to strengthen the fingers and improve their dexterity. Although demonstated on a ukulele, this finger exercise can also be performed on a guitar or virtually any other instrument for that matter. This is also a good warm-up exercise to do before practicing or playing your instrument.

Also, note that the finger exercise demonstrated is ideally suited to emulate on a hand and finger exerciser. In this way, you can perform finger exercises almost anytime and anywhere, not just when you are at your instrument.
